Would-be Attorney General Echoes Incumbent’s Support For Harassing Opponents
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel posted March 11 on Twitter to mention an article about Donald Trump supporting her political opponent, Matthew DePerno, at a fundraiser. DePerno has said he would prosecute Nessel if elected.
“This office comes with awesome criminal investigative and prosecutorial authority,” Nessel stated. “Those who seek to abuse that power by pledging to imprison their political adversaries have no place in our government.”
Nessel said in an March 12, 2021, email that her office should seek and arrest a Holland woman before that woman had the opportunity to go on Fox News to tell her side of the story about defying a state lockdown order by keeping her restaurant open.
“Do we know her whereabouts? We should just have her picked up before she goes on. This is outrageous,” Nessel wrote.
Restaurant owner Marlena Hackney of Holland was arrested by the Michigan State Police seven days later, on March 19.
