Whitmer Will Work With Anyone For ‘New Era Of Prosperity’ — But Won't Sign Tax Cut Bill

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer tweeted March 22: “I will work with anyone, for everyone, as we usher in a new era of prosperity for families, communities, and small businesses.”

Four days earlier, Whitmer vetoed legislation to reduce Michigan’s 4.25% personal income tax rate to 3.9%.

The rate had been 3.9% before Gov. Jennifer Granholm signed a new law raising it to 4.35%. Under that law, the rate was set revert to 3.9% in 2015, but in 2012 that provision was repealed and the state adopted the current rate of 4.25%.
