Whitmer Says ‘Do All We Can’ To Put Money Back In Pockets, Opposes $2.5 Billion Tax Cut Awaiting Signature
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer tweeted March 8 that she was supporting a federal gas tax holiday.
“We need to do all we can to put money back in people’s pockets,” Whitmer said, referring to talk of a bill in Congress to suspend the 18.4 cent per gallon federal fuel tax for the rest of 2022.
In Michigan, Whitmer opposes a bill passed by the Legislature and awaiting her signature that would reduce the state income tax to 3.9%, not for one year but permanently. The Senate Fiscal Agency estimates this would save Michigan taxpayers more than $2.5 billion annually.
