Michigan Capitol Confidential Retracts Story on Face Mask
Governor's executive order states no individual is subject to penalty for not wearing a face mask
Michigan Capitol Confidential has retracted a story that stated residents are subject to a misdemeanor citation for not wearing a face mask in an enclosed public space, despite statements made by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer that the mandate will not be enforced.
That was not accurate. The executive order does have a provision in it that states no individual is subject to penalty for not wearing a face mask in an enclosed public space
Before publishing, Michigan Capitol Confidential did contact the Attorney General's office and ask for clarification on the issue. The Attorney General's office referred the question to Whitmer's office. The Governor's office didn't respond to two emails seeking clarification.
