Whitmer Blasted Trump’s Packed Rallies, Now Joins Biden’s Crowds
A conservative watchdog group says Gov. Gretchen Whitmer violated her own COVID-19 orders when she attended Joe Biden’s inauguration in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 20.
The group called Michigan Rising Action stated in an email memo that a Jan. 13 order issued by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services restricted outdoor gatherings to a maximum of 25 people. Whitmer tweeted a photo of herself at an inauguration event, where far more than 25 were present. The executive order does make an exception to the 25-person limit for voting or “official election-related activities.”
In October, Whitmer criticized then-President Donald Trump for holding campaign rallies in Michigan.
“This is a recipe for disaster, and we have seen COVID outbreaks as a result of these rallies," said Whitmer, according to The Detroit News. "I’m encouraging Michigan citizens: Don’t attend events like this.”
