For the second year in a row, Utica Community Schools teachers were the state’s highest paid, on average.
Utica teachers received an average salary of $81,641 in 2019-20. Teachers at Warren Consolidated Schools were the second-highest paid, with an average salary of $81,487.
The figures come from a Michigan Department of Education’s annual survey, released in March.
The average teacher salary statewide was $63,553 in the 2019-20 school year.
Michigan teacher salaries vary greatly depending on the district. For example, the average salary of a Benton Harbor Area Schools’ teacher in 2019-20 was $44,197, or 46% lower than teachers in the top-paying school district.
