One Michigan Child Age 5-To-14 Has Died Of COVID-19; Four Of That Age Group Died From Flu
There has been one COVID-19 death in the 5-14 year age group in Michigan in 2020, but four in that age group have died from influenza and three from pneumonia. There have 86 deaths of children age 5-to-14 in Michigan overall.
The media reported the death of a 5-year-old girl in April due meningoencephalitis, a rare complication of COVID-19, according to the Detroit News.
The deaths by age group data comes from a state of Michigan website that tracks all deaths and is dated from Jan. 1 through Aug. 3. However, the website is updated a couple times a month, and more recent deaths can take several weeks to be tabulated by the state.
