A special thank you to those who paid the ultimate price for our freedoms

CapCon thanks veterans, families for their sacrifice

No words can convey CapCon’s gratitude to those who paid the ultimate price for our freedoms. But we will do our best to properly thank our military men and women who selflessly gave their lives to protect our country.

Most people think of Memorial Day as the kickoff to summer — the time to open the cabin, heat up the grill and enjoy a three-day weekend. For those who have lost family and friends who served our country, however, it is a reminder of the ultimate sacrifice.

May 30, 1868, was the first time our nation collectively commemorated our fallen heroes. It was not until 1971, through an act of Congress, that the last Monday of May became recognized as a national holiday.

CapCon would like to challenge readers to find a way to honor our fallen heroes. Visit or clean a cemetery that holds our warriors. Donate to a veterans organization. Attending a ceremony that honors those who gave their all. Whatever you do, it is important to remember why the day is observed.

As you spend time with family, remember those families that will forever have an absent loved one. And to those whose families have lost someone, we recognize you today as well. We will never forget your heroes.

Thank you for your sacrifice.
