Celebrate Sunshine Week By Suing A Government Open Records Act Scofflaw
Mackinac Center did; its new suit joins seven others against Michigan governments
The Mackinac Center for Public Policy submitted a routine Freedom of Information Act request to the city of Flint requesting gross pay amounts for city employees in 2019 and 2020.
As of March 19 Flint officials have not responded to the requests, which is required by law. The Mackinac Center has filed a lawsuit against the city. It brings to eight the number of open records violation lawsuits brought by the organization that are currently pending in Michigan courts.
Saturday was the final day of Sunshine Week, a tradition started in 2005 by the American Society of News Editors to promote open government.
