Bill Would Give State Coronavirus Checks To 'Undocumented Individuals'
No papers, no citizenship, no federal 'Cares Act' benefits - no problem
A recent bill introduced by Democratic State Rep. Alex Garza would authorize state grants to “undocumented individuals” who are not eligible for federal coronavirus benefits and have suffered “hardship” due to COVID-19. The federal relief law does not authorize benefits for illegal or nonresident aliens.
House Bill 6002 was introduced July 23. An “undocumented individual” age 18 and above could receive up to $500 from the state, with a maximum of $1,000 per household.
The bill was referred to the Committee on Families, Children and Seniors.
