‘As Serious As It's Been,’ West Michigan’s Spectrum Health At 78.9% Bed Occupancy
The Spectrum Health System of Michigan had 151 patients with COVID-19 on Monday, according to a WOOD-TV news report.
“This is as serious as it’s been for West Michigan, period,” said Dr. Darryl Elmouchi, president of Spectrum Health West Michigan, according to WOOD-TV. “I would say right now we are standing on the edge of a cliff.”
Spectrum Health describes itself as a $7.3 billion annual enterprise with 31,000 employees and 15 hospitals across southwest Michigan.
The state survey for Oct. 26 showed the Spectrum system treating 135 COVID-19 patients with 33 of them in ICU.
The Spectrum system’s bed occupancy was 78.9% as of Oct. 26. The statewide bed occupancy average was 71.6% for that day.
